Philipp Kieferndorf, a preacher of the Mennonite church at Monsheim, Hesse, Germany, 1889-1894 and a native of Leistadt (Palatinate), was the first minister whose theological education was sponsored by the Vereinigung of Mennonite churches in Germany. He studied at the universities of Basel, Jena, Heidelberg, and Berlin. In 1892 he wrote a treatise on the oath, Der Eid (Worms, 1892), the first systematic treatment of the question. Later Kieferndorf migrated to Jerusalem, and died there.
