Jan Dirks (Dircxszoon) of Alkmaar, Dutch province of North Holland, who was among the Anabaptists sailing from Amsterdam to Bergklooster en route to Münster; arrested in Bergklooster, he was sentenced to death by the Court of Holland and executed at The Hague on 10 April 1534. According to Vos this Jan Dircksz is identical with Jan Walen, the date of exe­cution being 15 April 1534. Another Anabaptist from Alkmaar, a locksmith also called Jan Dircx, who had also sailed to Bergklooster, but who had not yet been baptized, was tried 25 April 1534, and was sentenced to ask the sheriff and the alderman of Alkmaar for pardon for his trespass.
