Johann Lachmann, reformer of Heilbronn, Württemberg, Germany, studied at the University of Heidelberg, became a priest in Heilbronn in 1514, sided with the Reformation in 1524, led it safely through the conflict with powerful opponents, tried with some success to lead the peasant movement along more moderate paths, and took a lenient attitude toward the Anabaptists.
