Peter Tasch (Tesch), an Anabaptist (Melchiorite) leader, preacher, and author in Hesse, Germany. His work as a missionary extended as far as England (see his letter to Georg Schnabel). His tracts, Von der Taufordnung Christi, Vom Eid, and Von der Menschwerdung, were apparently very influential. In 1536 he was apprehended with a number of other Anabaptists, among whom was Leonhard Fälber. Bucer persuaded him in the Marburg colloquy (30 October - 1 November 1538) to join the Reformed Church, and he was frequently used to lead his former associates and brethren to conversion. He is the author of the booklet, Bekenntnis oder Antwort etlicher Fragstücke oder Artikeln der gefangenen Täufer und Anderer im Land zu Hessen (9 December 1538), which was signed by Fälber and eight other Anabaptists, and which was a modified confession of their faith, yielding a number of doctrinal points. (See Fälber for particulars.) His later life was by no means above reproach. (See Bucer and England.)
