Abbekerk, a village in the Dutch province of North Holland, about ten miles (16 km) north of Hoorn, where there was a Mennonite congregation and church building until the middle of the eighteenth century. Some time before 1730 the congregation united with the one at Twisk about six miles beyond Hoorn. In the early days there was a kerkepad (church path) through the meadows to Twisk, made by the Mennonites going to church. A seat in the church council at Twisk is still occupied by a member living at Abbekerk. The members living in Abbekerk numbered fifteen in 1950.
