Hendrik Waerma: minister; b. 1711 at Emden, d. 26 July 1771, at Deventer, son of Meindert Waerma, married to Hester Saaxuma, of Groningen, was a preacher in his father's church at Emden 1741-61 and at Deventer, Netherlands from 1761 until his death in 1771. Though belonging to the Groningen Old Flemish branch, Hendrik Waerma was a man of tolerant and rather liberal views, as may be seen from the fact that he sent his son to the Amsterdam Lamist seminary. His many writings breathe a spirit of toleration. He published Beknopt Ontwerp van de Voornaamste Geloof-zaaken der Christelyke Godsdienst volgens de H. Schriftuur en de Belydenissen der Doopsgezinden (Emden, 1744); De Waare Weg des Heyls, twelve sermons (Groningen, 1751); Lijk-Predikacie. Op H. B. Alringh (1757); Afscheydspredikacie Embden 1761 (Deventer, 1762); Historisch Verhael wegens de oudheid en schriftmatigheid van het Geloof of de Leere der Doopsgezinden (Groningen, 1767); De Evangelische Geloofsleere der Doopsgezinde Christenen, die ook Mennoniten genaamt worden, followed by Behnopt Historisch Verhaal wegens de Leere der Doopsgezinden (Groningen, 1768), and Nodige Beantwoording (Groningen, 1768). The Mennonite Archives at Amsterdam contain a manuscript by H. Waerma, "Annotatie van de merkwaardigste voorvallen myns leevens." of 1747.
