Judith Lubbertsdochter, b. 21 December 1601 at Amsterdam, d. there about 1670, was baptized in 1618 upon confession of faith in the Amsterdam Waterlander congregation. She was an unlettered and simple woman, earning her living by darning hose. About 1628 she moved to Alkmaar and became engaged to Jan Philips Schabaelje, but this engagement was broken off about a year later. Judith returned to Amsterdam, left the Mennonite Church, and became a member of the Roman Catholic Church by rebaptism. She was a poet, her poems showing a somewhat mystical trait. A number of her poems are found in Mennonite hymnaries, e.g., in Gheestelijck Kruydthofken (De Rijp, 1629), Rijper Liedtboecxken (2d ed., De Rijp, 1636), and Gheestelyck Bloem-hofken (Haarlem, 1637).
