Van Heyst is a Dutch Mennonite family whose ancestor Michiel van Heyst, born 1556 at Antwerp, died after 1627 in Amsterdam, emigrated because of persecution from Antwerp to the Netherlands, first to Haarlem (about 1595) and in 1610 to Amsterdam. His son was Pieter van Heyst, born 1598 at Haarlem, died 1647 at Amsterdam, where he was a broker. David van Heyst, who was a great-grandson of Michiel, was a Mennonite preacher. The son of this David, also David van Heyst (1713-1784), founded the former Banking House Van Heyst en Zoon at Amsterdam. In the 18th century this family was related with well-known Amsterdam Mennonite families such as Leeuw, van Leuvenigh, Willink, and Blaauw.
