Hardelop (Hardloop, Hardeloep, Harrloop, Harloop, Harrlop) is a Mennonite family name in Eiderstedt, Stapelholm, and Hamburg. Gerrit Hardelop was received by baptism at Glückstadt in 1634, by the elder of the Friedrichstadt Flemish Church. Jacob and Jan Hardelop, without doubt brothers, members of the High German congregation, lived in Witzwort. The former carried on a thriving export trade in cheese, bacon, and wool with Hamburg and other towns in 1658 and after.
Claas Hardelop lived in the Süderstapel parish, Stapelholm district. In 1683 the officials of the church and school demanded of the Anabaptists living in the parish the same fees as the Lutherans paid. As spokesman for the group Hardelop appealed to Duke Christian Albrecht; orders were then given that the Anabaptists should not be burdened but protected in coming there.
Johann Hardelop was a deacon of the Flemish congregation in Hamburg. Jacob Hardelop in the Groothusenkoog of Eiderstedt was one of the very few Mennonites to hold public office; in 1736-44 he was "overseer of the beach"; his oath of office was a "Christian yea and nay." The Hardelop family was probably lost to the church through marriage. At any rate it is no longer found in the Friedrichstadt church books after 1700.
About 1675 Pieter Ariaens Hardloop and a group of members of the Waterlander congregation of Wormerveer, Dutch province of North Holland, insisted on a more conservative policy in maintaining the confessions and accused the church board of Socinianism.
