Thijs Olbrants, an Anabaptist martyr, a native of the Dutch island of Texel, was sentenced to death by the Court of Holland at The Hague on 15 September 1534, and beheaded the same day or the next. Thijs, who had been among the Anabaptists who sailed in March 1534 from Amsterdam in order to go to Münster in Westphalia, was arrested near Bergklooster but released upon recantation. But soon after he was again active, reading the Scriptures in Mennonite meetings, and was apprehended a second time and now, remaining steadfast, sentenced to death.
