The Milford Chapel in Milford, Indiana, began in 1971 as an extension of the Salem Mennonite Church in New Paris, Indiana. It became a member of the Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference of the Mennonite Church (MC) in 1974.

In 1981, Milford Chapel withdrew from the Indiana-Michigan Conference along with its parent congregation. The congregation was unhappy with the theological direction of the conference. The final issue was the conference's decision to allow the ordination of women for pastoral ministry.

Milford Chapel then became an independent Mennonite congregation.
