Paul Wappler, professor at the Real-gymnasium in Zwickau, [[Saxony|Saxony]], [[Germany|Germany]], was born 18 September 1868, at Auerbach (Vogtland); he died 3 January 1915 in Zwickau. He was the author of the following books significant for [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] study: Die Stellung Kursachsens und des Landgrafen Philipp von Hessen zur Täuferbewegung (Münster, 1910, 254 pp.); Die Täuferbewegung in Thüringen von 1526 bis 1584 (Jena, 1913, 541 pp.); also Thomas Münzer in Zwickau und die "Zwickauer Propheten" (Zwickau, 1908); Inquisition und Ketzerprozesse in Zwickau zur Reformationszeit dargestellt im Zusammenhang mit der Entwickelung der Ansichten Luthers und Melanchthons über Glaubens- und Gewissensfreiheit (Leipzig, 1908).

The two volumes on the Anabaptists are thorough and objective, notable also for their extensive publication of sources. The first has 110 pages of sources, largely from the Gesamtarchiv at Weimar; the second has 295 pages containing apparently all the pertinent documents for the study of Anabaptism in [[Thuringia (Germany)|Thuringia]].
