The first Mennonite settlement in [[Bolivia|Bolivia]], Tres Palmas was started in 1954 by several Mennonite families from the [[Fernheim Colony (Boquerón Department, Paraguay)|Fernheim colony]] in [[Paraguay|Paraguay]] who were looking for a better climate and for better living conditions. Tres Palmas was located several km northeast of the city of Santa Cruz. It was dissolved in 1986 when the few remaining families either moved back to Paraguay or to [[Canada|Canada]].
