The Swift Current Colony is located 50 km (30 miles) south of Santa Cruz, adjacent to the north edge of [[Riva Palacios Colony (Bolivia)|Riva Palacios colony]]. Swift Current colony was established in 1967 by Mennonites from the Swift [Current] colony in [[Mexico|Mexico]]. In 1986 there were 20 villages in the Bolivian colony. This [[Old Colony Mennonites|Old Colony Mennonite]] group was then under the leadership of bishop Peter Klassen. In 1986 the church consisted of 840 members within a total population of 2,510.
