Helena Loewen Dueck Reimer, Mennonite matriarch and minister's wife, was born on 12 February 1806 in the village of [[Muntau (Molotschna Settlement, Zaporizhia Oblast, Ukraine)|Muntau]], [[Molotschna Mennonite Settlement (Zaporizhia Oblast, Ukraine)|Molotschna Colony]], South Russia. She was the fifth of six children born to Jacob E. Loewen (b.1776) and Catarina Neufeld (ca 1764- before 1835). It is not known when she was baptized, but in 1824 she married Johann Klaas Dueck (1801-1866), who later became a [[Kleine Gemeinde|Kleine Gemeinde]] minister. Together they had 16 children, of whom seven survived to adulthood. Helena’s husband Johann died in 1866. Later that same year she married Heinrich Aron Reimer (1791-1884). In 1875 Helena joined the Mennonite migration to [[Canada|Canada]] with her second husband, Heinrich Aron Reimer, along with four of her sons and their families. They settled in Grünfeld on the [[East Reserve (Manitoba, Canada)|East Reserve]] in [[Manitoba (Canada)|Manitoba]], where Helena died on 13 November 1879 at the home of her son, Jacob L. Dueck (1839-1893). Though Helena only lived four years on the East Reserve, she influenced the history and culture of this area through her children and grandchildren.
