Gerrit Karsdorp was a minister belonging to an old Mennonite family of [[Leiden (Zuid-Holland, Netherlands)|Leiden]], several branches of which lived in North [[Germany|Germany]]. He was a minister at [[Friedrichstadt (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany)|Friedrichstadt]] a.d. Eider and then at Hamburg, serving the church there 1718-1750. He was the first salaried minister of the Hamburg Mennonite Church, receiving 1200 marks annually. He was zealous in promoting the instruction of the children, and had 60 Dutch question-and-answer books sent from Holland for this purpose. He died on 19 September 1750. His colleague [[Beets, Gerrit (1707-1776)|Gerrit Beets]] delivered his funeral sermon, De vrolyke gesettheyd eenes Christen tegens et verschrikkingen des doods . . . Hamburg, n.d.
