Peter was the older of two children. Peter married Maria Neufeld on 10 May 1947. Their marriage was blessed with six children: Edith, Helmut, Harry, Godfrey, Heidi and Henry. Peter Hübert died in Abbotsford, British Columbia on 18 April 2008.

The Hübert family was able to emigrate from the Soviet Union during very troubled times. They left Zagradovka on 10 November 1929, Peter’s sixth birthday, traveling first to Moscow. From Moscow they were able to secure train passage, arriving in Germany by Christmas 1929. In May 1930 the Hüberts boarded the ship Monte Sarmiento in Hamburg, Germany, on route to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where they arrived on 6 June 1930. After several weeks quarantine, they continued their journey by boat to Santa Catarina in southern Brazil, eventually settling in the village of Stolz Plateau.

In January 1939 after living in Stolz Plateau for nine years, they moved to Canoinhas, in the highlands of Santa Catarina, Brazil, a town populated with many German settlers who had immigrated here after World War I. The Hüberts longed for closer contact with a Mennonite community. In 1945 they moved again, this time to Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. Here Peter began attending a Mennonite Brethren Church, and met his future wife Maria Neufeld. They were married in 1947.

Peter was converted at the age of 15, but later lived with some serious doubts about his faith. With the help of a pastor in Curitiba, he resolved his spiritual tensions. In September 1946 he was baptized into the Mennonite Brethren Church in Boqueirao, Brazil. In 1955 Peter was ordained by the Brazilian MB Church, with Cornelius C. Peters of Canada officiating at the ceremony.

Peter and Maria served in several Brazilian communities. Peter founded a church in Sao Mateus, a town heavily influenced by spiritualism. In June 1964 the Hüberts moved to Quito, Ecuador. From 1964 until retirement from this ministry in 1989, they produced German language programs for the radio station HCJB, the <em>Voice of the Andes</em>. Among their responsibilities was contact with a large listening audience, resulting in visits to Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Germany.

On 14 March 1989 the Hüberts arrived in Canada to begin their retirement. Here they became members of the King Road Mennonite Brethren Church in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Retirement did not last long. In 1992 they were asked to accept responsibility for a German radio broadcast called, <em>Botschaft des Friedens </em>(Broadcast of Peace), a ministry in which they were involved for the next 14 years.

On 10 May 2004, the Hübert’s 57th wedding anniversary, Peter was diagnosed with cancer. During his illness he took comfort from the words of John 15:16: "You did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit."
