In 1924 Peter immigrated to the [[United States of America|United States]]; he lived at [[Bluffton (Ohio, USA)|Bluffton, Ohio]], serving on the faculty of Bluffton College until 1934. In that year he joined the faculty of the Ohio State University at Columbus, Ohio, teaching German and Russian. In 1946 he became ill with tuberculosis, after which he never completely regained his health, though he taught some courses.&lt;br /&gt;
