Maude Ethel Douglas was born 20 October 1897 to George and Oda Dickerson at Coffeyville, KS. Her first husband, John Brooke died of influenza during World War I. In 1922 she married Ed Buckingham. He died at the [[Mennonite Hospital and Sanitarium (La Junta, Colorado, USA)|Mennonite Sanitarium]], La Junta, CO where Maude became acquainted with and joined the Mennonite Church (MC). She took her high school training at Hesston Academy, Hesston, KS, and nurse's training at the [[La Junta Mennonite School of Nursing (La Junta, Colorado, USA)|Mennonite Hospital]]in La Junta, CO.

In 1932 Maude moved to Culp, AR., with her third husband, John A. Douglas. There she pioneered in Sunday schools and practiced nursing and midwifery without physician support and in primitive conditions. Due to her efforts other Mennonites came to Culp and ministries in health care, education, and congregational life resulted. John A. Douglas died in 1956. After 1963 Maude served for 11 years at the Calico Rock, AR Medical Clinic and 3 years at White River Convalescent Home. Maude Ethel Douglas died 23 June 1986. She is buried in the Mennonite [[Cemeteries|cemetery]], Calico Rock, AR.
