Der Botschafter, periodical of the Mennonites of [[Russia|Russia]], published twice a week. Ediger]], [[Berdyansk (Zaporizhia Oblast, Ukraine)|Berdyansk]].) It appeared usually in six pages, sometimes eight, with 2-4 pages of advertising. Der Botschafter was born of the need of another bond to preserve unity among the numerous Mennonite congregations scattered throughout [[Russia|Russia]]. In its columns it presented religious and devotional matter, and also followed all events in the field of politics, [[Education, Mennonite|education]], and science. The first issue appeared on Aug. 13, 1905, at Ekaterinoslav in the period of internal unrest and revolution. This fact was not without influence on the development of the paper. The frequent strikes in the printeries of the great manufacturing city caused many a delay. Other circumstances arose which finally made it necessary to transfer publication to Berdyansk. After that the Botschafter developed steadily. Its influence on the churches should not be underestimated. In questions of church organization and regulation it represented the traditional Mennonite position on a positive Christian foundation. The journal ceased publication in 1914 at the beginning of World War I. No further Mennonite periodical was published in [[Russia|Russia]] until [[Unser Blatt (1925-1928)(Periodical)|Unser Blatt]] appeared in October 1925 as the official organ of the Bundeskonferenz.
