Jan van Calcar (Calker) (1696-1773) was born at [[Delden, Matheus van (1828-1904)|Deventer]], Dutch province of [[Overijssel (Netherlands)|Overijssel]]. He left his home church (Old Flemish) and joined the congregation of the [[Swiss Brethren|Swiss Brethren]] at [[Hoogezand-Sappemeer (Groningen, Netherlands)|Hoogezand]], Dutch province of [[Groningen (Netherlands)|Groningen]], being baptized here in 1716 by [[Anken, Hans (b. 1673/1674)|Hans Ancken]], Elder of the United Palatine and Swiss Brethren, who had immigrated from [[Switzerland|Switzerland]] in 1711.
