Hermann Anwald was a victim of the [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] persecutions by the [[Swabian League|Swabian League]]. Born in Jettingen, south of Burgau, he was a servant of [[Langenmantel, Eitelhans (d. 1528)|Eitelhans Langenmantel]] and like his master joined the Anabaptists. He was instructed by [[Denck, Hans (ca. 1500-1527)|Hans Denck]] and [[Hut, Hans (d. 1527)|Hans Hut]] and baptized by Hans Hut at Shrovetide 1527 at [[Augsburg (Freistaat Bayern, Germany)|Augsburg]]. When the Anabaptists were arraigned before the magistrates in the fall of 1527, he reported to the council, but was dismissed. With his master, who was released from prison on 14 October, he went to Göppingen and from here he cared for Langenmantel's needs. Anwald had only recently been married to a maid of the Langenmantel home, who had also been baptized by Hans Hut (according to the testimony of [[Braun, Burkhard (d. 1567)|Burkhard von Ofen]]). On 24 April 1528 Anwald and his wife Margaret were seized with their master at Leitheim. Although both recanted, they were executed on 11 May 1528, Hermann beheaded and Margaret drowned.
