Swift Current Mennonite Settlement near [[Cuauhtémoc (Chihuahua State, Mexico)|Cuauhtemoc]], Chihuahua, Mexico, was established in 1926 by approximately 1,000 [[Old Colony Mennonites|Old Colony Mennonites]] from [[Swift Current (Saskatchewan, Canada)|Swift Current]], [[Saskatchewan (Canada)|Saskatchewan.]] The settlement consists of some sixteen villages and is located northwest of the larger [[Manitoba Colony (Mexico)|Manitoba Mennonite settlement]]. The land was purchased in the name of two settlers from each village. The settlement has its own civic administration ([[Oberschulze|<em>Oberschulze</em>]]) and is an independent ecclesiastical unit with its own elder (Jacob Peters). In 1953 the population was 2,694.
