View source for Michiel Stevens (d. 1538)

Michiel Stevens of Oosterhout, a potter, an [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] martyr, was burnt at the stake at Vught near [[Hertogenbosch (Noord-Brabant, Netherlands)|Hertogenbosch]], Dutch province of [[North Brabant (Netherlands)|North Brabant]] on 9 September 1538, with [[Jan Blok (d. 1538)|Jan Blok]] of [[Ghent (Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium)|Ghent]] and[[Adriaen van 's Gravenhage (d. 1538)| Adriaen]] of The Hague, both weavers. In the sentence Michiel is called "boersdreger," i.e., purse bearer; he was therefore probably a deacon who had charge of aid to poor members.
