Urban Heberle (1812-66), a Lutheran church historian of [[Baden-Württemberg (Germany)|Württemberg]], Germany. As deacon in Blaubeuren 1843-1849 and archdeacon 1847-1857 in Tübingen, he published important articles relating to [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] history of the 16th century, showing himself an expert in the field. His important works were (1) "Johann Denk und sein Büchlein vom Gesetz Gottes" (<em>Theologische Studien und Kritiken</em>, 1851, 121-94); (2) "Johann Denk und die Ausbreitung seiner Lehre" (<em>op. cit</em>., 1855, 817-90); (3) "Leonhard Kaiser, lutherischer, kein anabaptistischer Blutzeuge" (<em>Zeitschrift für Protestantismus und Kirche</em>, 1856); (4) "W. Capitos Verhältnis zum Anabaptismus" (<em>Niedners Zeitschrift für die historische Theologie</em>, 1857, 285f.); (5) "Die Anfänge des Anabaptismus in der Schweiz" (<em>Jahrbuch für deutsche Theologie</em>, 1858). Especially the last article is of outstanding importance historically. No student of Anabaptist history can afford to overlook it.
