The General Sunday School Committee of the [[Mennonite Church (MC)|Mennonite Church]] was created in 1915 by the [[Mennonite Church General Conference|Mennonite General Conference]] to supervise, coordinate, and strengthen the [[Sunday School|Sunday-school]] work of the church. It was discontinued in 1937 when its work was taken over by the newly created [[Mennonite Commission for Christian Education (Mennonite Church)|Commission for Christian Education ]]and Young People's Work. In addition to its general promotional work the committee was given general charge of the editorial work on the Sunday-school literature of the church and for this purpose chose (subject to General Conference approval) a General Sunday School Editor and an Associate Sunday School Editor. It therefore of necessity worked in close relationship with the [[Mennonite Publication Board (Mennonite Church)|Mennonite Publication Board]]. In this connection it also served as the general planning agency and curriculum builder for the Sunday-school literature. For its promotional work it had a General Sunday School Secretary. The committee had six regular members elected for a six-year term, but in addition gradually developed a series of seven subcommittees with co-opted members. I. W. Royer served as General Sunday School Secretary throughout the life of the committee. [[Ressler, Jacob Andrews (1867-1936)|J. A. Ressler]] served as General Sunday School Editor from the beginning until his death in 1936. Influential chairmen were Vernon Smucker and [[Oyer, Noah (1891-1931)|Noah Oyer]].
