Abraham A. Braun, born 1851, son of Abraham Braun, Grossweide, a respected member of the [[Gnadenfeld Mennonite Church (Gnadenfeld, Molotschna Mennonite settlement, Zaporizhia Oblast, Ukraine)|Gnadenfeld Mennonite]] congregation, South [[Russia|Russia]], was one of a group of Wüst brethren which included August Lehman, the elder of this congregation in Gnadenfeld, Andreas Flaming of Schardau, and Heinrich Schmidt of Pastwa, preachers of the congregation; in his later years Braun was a <em>Felsentaler Freund.</em> Braun's father had the courage to admit [[Cornelsen, Abraham (1826-1884)|Abraham Cornelsen]] into his home, who had been expelled in midwinter from the Elisabeththal school and who was living in the [[Nogai People|Nogai]] steppes in a freshly built, damp sod hut. Abraham Braun completed his courses for elementary teaching under [[Franz, Heinrich (1812-1889)|Heinrich Franz]] I (1812-1889) and the Lange brothers in the Gnadenfeld Vereinsschule. He taught in the village school in [[Neu-Halbstadt (Molotschna Mennonite Settlement, Zaporizhia Oblast, Ukraine)|Neu-Halbstadt]], then for 30 years in the [[Gnadenfeld (Molotschna Mennonite settlement, Zaporizhia Oblast, Ukraine)|Gnadenfeld]] school. He was also engaged as a teacher of Russian in the [[Gnadenfeld Zentralschule (Gnadenfeld, Molotschna Mennonite settlement, Zaporizhia Oblast, Ukraine)|Gnadenfeld Zentralschule]].
