Pieter Beets Pzn (ca. 1755-1813), a son of [[Beets, Pieter (1729-1776)|Pieter Beets]]. He was appointed as <em>proponent</em> at Altona, and served the congregation of [[Blokzijl (Overijssel, Netherlands)|Blokzijl]] 1782-1785. Then he studied two years at the university of [[Groningen (Groningen, Netherlands)|Groningen]], meanwhile serving the congregation at [[Leer (Niedersachsen, Germany)|Leer]] and [[Altona (Hamburg, Germany)|Altona]]. In 1789 he was called to [[Zaandam (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Zaandam-Nieuwe Huis]], for the salary—very high for the time—of 1,100 guilders. From 1789 to 1813 he was minister at Zaandam, where he found time in additional to his pastoral work and his duties as supervisor of schools, to train young men for the ministry, especially those who did not like the liberal theology of the Lamist seminary at [[Amsterdam (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Amsterdam]]. He was the author of a number of booklets, especially for young people—<em>Körte verhalen voor Kinderen</em> (2 vols.); <em>De vriendschap der jeugd</em> (3 vols.); and <em>Onderwijs in de godsdienst van Jesus Christus</em>. The <em>Bibliotheek der theologische letterkunde</em>, which appeared under his supervision 1803-1807, was the first theological journal in the [[Netherlands|Netherlands]]; in it he reviewed theological writings that appeared in the [[Netherlands|Netherlands]] as well as in other countries. He was one of the founders of the <em>Nuts-departement</em> (public welfare) at Zaandam and promoted the organization of a French school there. He was a man of many-sided significance.
