Herman Bakels , born 25 July 1871, died 22 July 1952, served as pastor in [[Warns (Friesland, Netherlands)|Warns]], 1895-1901, [[Enkhuizen (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Enkhuizen]], 1901-1907, and finally in [[Annaparochie, Sint (Friesland, Netherlands)|St. Anna-Parochie]], 1908-1909, and 1911-1916. Of his various writings those of greatest interest to us are <em>Het volk van Menno </em>(Leiden, 1918), and <em>Beknopt Bijbelsch Woordenboek </em>(first ed. [[Amsterdam (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Amsterdam]], 1917). His modern translation of the New Testament (Amsterdam, 1908) went through many editions.
