Mss. 4-299'']]     Christmas Carol Kauffman, a writer of inspirational fiction, was born 25 December 1901 in [[Elkhart (Indiana, USA)|Elkhart]], [[Indiana (USA)|Indiana]], the second of four daughters of Abraham R. and Selena Bell (Wade) Miller. She graduated from Elkhart High School and attended [[Goshen College (Goshen, Indiana, USA)|Goshen College]] and [[Hesston College (Hesston, Kansas, USA)|Hesston College]]. She began writing at Hesston and for years she wrote a short story a month for a weekly youth magazine published by Herald Press, completing more than 100 stories. In 1924 she married Norman Hostetler, who was accidentally electrocuted in 1926. In 1929 she married [[Kauffman, Nelson E. (1904-1981)|Nelson E. Kauffman]], a Mennonite pastor. She was the mother of four children.

She worked with her husband as a missionary in Hannibal, [[Missouri (USA)|Missouri ]]for 22 years. In Hannibal she began writing her popular novels, which were published by Herald Press and include <em>Lucy Winchester, </em>1945; <em>Life within Life, </em>1952; <em>Not Regina, </em>1954; <em>Hidden Rainbow, </em>1957; <em>For One Moment, </em>1960; <em>Light from Heaven, </em>1961; and <em>Search to Belong </em>1963. She died 30 January 1969 from hepatitis in Elkhart.
