map'']]     Allen County,<strong> </strong>[[Indiana (USA)|Indiana]] is located on the far eastern side of the state, about 60 miles (100 km) south of the [[Michigan (State)|Michigan]] border. Its county seat is [[Fort Wayne (Indiana, USA)|Fort Wayne]]. The Mennonites and Amish historically have been located in the northeast quarter of the county, the first settlers having come to Allen County about 1850 directly from [[Germany|Germany]] and [[France|France]] to settle near Leo. According to the 1949 <em>[[Mennonite Yearbook and Directory|Mennonite Yearbook]] </em>there were in the county 180 [[Old Order Amish|Old Order Amish]] Mennonites, 143 [[Conservative Mennonite Conference|Conservative Amish Mennonites]], and 375 Mennonites ([[Mennonite Church (MC)|Mennonite Church]]); at that time there were also two [[Fellowship of Evangelical Churches|Evangelical Mennonite]] churches in the county, with a total membership of about 190.
