Menso Alting, a Calvinist divine, educated at [[Heidelberg (Baden-Württemberg, Germany)|Heidelberg]], worked at first in the [[Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)|Palatinate]] (after 1566) and 1574-1612 as preacher in [[Emden (Niedersachsen, Germany)|Emden]], where he promoted the spread of Calvinism at the cost of Lutheranism and [[Anabaptism|Anabaptism]]. Before the religious disputation at Emden in 1578, in which he was the speaker on the Reformed side, he published a book against the Mennonites.
