View source for Verhelle, Pieter (b. ca. 1660)

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:DoNotOptimizeForBrowser /> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]-->Pieter Verhelle, b. ca. 1660 at Haarlem, Holland, was a preacher of the [[Flemish Mennonites|Flemish Mennonite]] congregation at Haarlem until 1693, when he moved to Hamburg, Germany, and served there from 1694 until after 1710. A sermon of his, <em>Predigt</em>, is published with Roosen's <em>Unschuld </em>(Ratzeburg, 1702). Like his father-in-law, Gerhard Roosen, he held the conservative [[Zonists|Zonist]] doctrines, whereas Jan de Lanoy, also a preacher of the Hamburg-Altona congregation, was more [[Lamists|Lamist]] (liberal).  In his sermons Verhelle often attacked de Lanoy's views. Pieter Verhelle was a member of the Verhelle family that stemmed from Mennonite emigrants from Flanders, Belgium, found at Haarlem from ca. 1600.
