Doornkaat (Dorencate, Doorenkaate, or ten Doornkaat), a Mennonite family which is found from the beginning of the 17th century in the district of [[Twente (Overijssel, Netherlands)|Twente]], Dutch province of [[Overijssel (Netherlands)|Overijssel]], where Hendrick Dorencate (d. 1755) became a preacher of the [[Flemish Mennonites|Old Flemish]] congregation of Hengelo<em> </em>in 1729, in which Hendrik Engbertsz Doorencate was a preacher 1735-ca. 1779. In later times this family lived especially in the Dutch province of Groningen and in [[East Friesland (Niedersachsen, Germany)|East Friesland]], [[Germany|Germany]].
