El Trebol was the third settlement effort by Mennonite refugees who fled from [[Russia|Russia]] and landed in [[Mexico|Mexico]]. El Trebol was located in the [[Durango (Mexico)|state of Durango]] on a tract of land east of the [[Old Colony Mennonites|Old Colony Mennonite]] village of Grünfeld. Twenty-four families moved from [[Irapuato (Guanajuato, Mexico)|Irapuato]] after that effort failed. These families, not all of one branch of Mennonites, struggled for three or four years to eke out an existence but finally gave up. Some of the families moved to [[Cuauhtémoc (Chihuahua State, Mexico)|Cuauhtémoc]] in the state of [[Chihuahua (Mexico)|Chihuahua]], others moved to [[Canada|Canada]], and one or two married into the Old Colony group. Today all evidence of a former settlement has disappeared.
