View source for Tanneken Walraven (d. 1575)

Tanneken Walraven, an [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] martyr who was burned at the stake at Antwerp, [[Belgium|Belgium]], on the evening of Pentecost, 22 May 1575. [[Braght, Tieleman Jansz van (1625-1664)|Van Braght's]] <em>[[Martyrs' Mirror|Martyrs' Mirror]]</em> adds that she was executed with her mouth screwed up to prevent speaking to the crowd. She was the wife of Jan Verschelt and the mother of Preacher [[Walraven, Jaques (16th/17th centuries)|Jaques Walraven]] of Amsterdam.
