Zirgkendorffer, Bernhard (d. 1528)
Bernhard Zirgkendorffer (d. 1528), a victim of the Anabaptist persecutions of the Swabian League, was captured on 24 April 1528, with Eitelhans Langenmantel at Leitheim, Bavaria, and although he recanted Anabaptist teachings in the hope of saving his life for the sake of his family, he was executed at Weissenhorn on 11 May 1528. He was baptized by Burkhard von Ofen at Goppingen, his native town, in the home of the miller in the presence of Conrad Huber and Peter Schleppach of Augsburg and the wife of Peck of Bergen. Of interest is the description of the instruction preceding the baptism. He was active in the care of the poor under the leadership of Nespitzer. The record of his trial is found in Roth, pp. 12-14 and 24-27.
