Zion Arapahoe (Indian) Mennonite Mission Church (Canton, Oklahoma, USA)

Zion Arapahoe (Indian) Mennonite Mission Church (General Conference Mennonite) is located 2 miles (3 km) south of Canton in Blaine County, OK. Missionary work among the Arapaho Indians in this district was begun by S. S. Haury at Cantonment 1883-87. Other workers were J. J. Kliewer 1887-89, D. B. Hirschler 1889-90, Paul Mouttet 1890-92, A. S. Voth 1892-93, N. L. Weis 1893-95, and J. A. Funk 1897-1907. In 1907 the church was moved from Cantonment to its present location and continued by J. A. Funk 1907-20, Albert Claassen 1920, G. A. Linscheid 1920-21, H. T. Neufeld 1921-27, H. J. Kliewer 1927-36, G. A. Linscheid 1936-38, Benno Toews 1938-40, Arthur Friesen 1940-47, and Alfred Wiebe 1947- . The total number of Arapahoe baptized was 236 by the mid-1950s. In 1952 living members totaled 111.
