Wouter (d. 1551)

Wouter (Gaultier van der Weyden), an Anabaptist martyr, was burned at the stake at Ghent, Belgium on 11 April 1551. Wouter, who was a native of Lier in the Belgian province of Brabant, had fled with some others to Ghent, but they were soon arrested and imprisoned in the Gravensteen castle. Some of this group apostatized, but four of them suffered martyrdom. For particulars, see Goris Cooman.
