Willem Aertsz (Willem de Hoedemaker), a Dutch Anabaptist martyr, born at Driel in Gelderland, a young man living at Ieper in Flanders, was captured at Zwevegem and burned at the stake on the market place of Kortrijk, Belgium, on 8 November 1567. His property was confiscated. Willem, who had been a member of the church since 1563, was a son or brother of Hendrik Aertsen and Janneken Cabiljaus, both of whom died as martyrs.
