The Westwood Community Church in Winnipeg, MB began services in 1978, and formally organized in 1979. The first building was occupied in 1989. Travis J. Reimer is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through division from [[Portage Avenue Church (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada)|Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren]] due to the latter's large size.
