Abraham Davidsz Volbot (Volboet) was a member of the Flemish Mennonite congregation "in den Blok" at Haarlem. After the Reformed pastor of Haarlem, Petrus Bontemps, had attacked the Mennonites and had been replied to by the Mennonite deacon Joost Hendricks of Amsterdam, Volbot also entered into the polemics by publishing (under the pseudonym of Gerard van Vryburgh) two pamphlets with curious titles: Hollandsche Zeep tegen Uytheemsche Vlecken . . .
