Jacobus David Vissering, born 24 October 1774 at Leer in East Friesland, Germany, died 17 December 1846, at Groningen, Netherlands, married first to Trijntje Kool (1772-1803) of Beverwijk, then to Baudina Cnoop (1779-1849) of Bolsward, was a Dutch Mennonite pastor. After studying theology at the University of Groningen, he was trained for the ministry by Pieter Beets, pastor at West-Zaandam, and appointed ministerial candidate by the church board of West-Zaandam on 12 March 1798. He served at Alkmaar 1798-1809 and at Groningen 1809-1846, retiring on 29 November of this year, after he had served for 47 years. Particularly in Groningen he worked with great blessing. During his pastorate Vissering, who was the preacher of the united Flemish and Waterlander Pelsterstraat church, and his colleague Pieter Klomp of the Old Flemish congregation in the Boteringestraat succeeded in bringing about a merger of these two congregations in 1809. In 1815 Vissering dedicated the new meetinghouse in the Boteringestraat. As far as is known he did not publish any writings.
