An outstanding member of this family was Karel (Carel) Verloove, b. 1633 at Haarlem, d. ca. 1700 at Amsterdam, who was a poet, whose verse was highly esteemed during his life time. One of his publications was Uytbreyding over de heylige Lofzangen (Amsterdam, 1686), a song- book containing some 200 hymns with psalm tunes. He belonged to a group of liberal poets, usually called the circle of Jan Zoet, all of whom favored Collegiant views. Karel Verloove was a friend of Jan Luyken, who dedicated one of his poems to Verloove, and was well acquainted with Johannes Antonides van der Goes and Pieter Cornelisz Plockhoy.
