Twisken
Twis(c)ken (Twiskers, Pieter-Jansz-Twisckvolk) is a name formerly given to a group of the Dutch Mennonites. It was used (a) for the followers of Pieter Jansz Twisck Jr. in Hoorn after this elder had separated from the main body; and (b) in a more general sense for the Old Frisian branch, of which Pieter Jansz Twisck Sr. was a leader. In the latter sense the Twisken in Friesland numbered 137 brethren in 1666. The Old Frisian "Arke Noach" congregation at Amsterdam was also commonly called the Twisck church, as was also at times the Frisian congregation in Hamburg, Germany.
