The Gathering Place in Airdrie, Alberta was started on 15 November 2002 by church planting couple Kelly and Donna Steffen. The church plant was the seventh church planted under Mission Calgary, a joint initiative of the Alberta Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches and the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches Board of Evangelism. The church plant in Airdrie was assisted by Saddle Ridge Community Church in Calgary.

The Gathering Place was accepted into the Alberta Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches in March 2005 with 28 charter members. Kelly Steffen, the founding pastor, served until 2008. He was replaced at that time by Ben Terlesky. The congregation met at the St. Martin de Porres High School in Airdrie, Alberta.

After eight years the congregation held their final service on 26 June 2011.
