Simon Michielsz (Machielsz) was an elder of the Waterlander congregation at De Rijp, Dutch province of North Holland. In 1575-76 Michielsz baptized Hans de Ries here, who soon became an influential elder and leader of the Waterlanders. In 1577, at a conference of Waterlander elders and preachers held at Alkmaar, a resolution was passed that Jacob Jansz Scheedemaker and de Ries should draw up a confession of faith, assisted by Simon Michielsz and others. Again in 1581 a Waterlander conference at Amsterdam discussed the question of drawing up a confession; it was then resolved that de Ries should write it with the assistance of Michielsz and Scheedemaker, which confession, after approval by the congregations, would be printed.

Later Michielsz was an elder at Haarlem, where he and Scheedemaker adopted a stricter practice in banning than a part of the congregation favored, which led to some trouble. Simon Michielsz probably died in 1587, for after this year there is no information about his activity. His brother Cornelis Michielsz was also a Waterlander preacher. In 1592 he refused to sign the Concept of Cologne, because he believed that the strict regulations concerning banning and shunning as found in the Concept were too much "human views" and not Scriptural.
