Karl Schornbaum: a Lutheran scholar of [[Bayern Federal State (Germany)|Bavaria]], Germany, church historian and research specialist in [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] history; b. 1875 in Thundorf, Lower Franconia, studied theology and philosophy at the universities of Erlangen, Greifswald, and [[Kiel (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany)|Kiel]], was vicar in Thalmosing 1897-99, instructor in catechism at [[Nürnberg (Freistaat Bayern, Germany)|Nürnberg]] 1899-1907, received his doctorate in philosophy at Erlangen in 1907, was pastor at Alfeld 1907-22, received his doctorate in theology at Erlangen in 1910, was dean at Roth near Nürnberg 1922-31, director of the state church archives in Nürnberg 1931-46, and retired in 1946. In 1932 he received the chair of Bavarian church history at Erlangen, and the title of honorary professor in 1945. He was the editor of the <em>Zeitschrift für bayrische Kirchengeschichte</em> and chairman of the Association for Bavarian Church History, and also of the Association for the History of Nürnberg. He wrote many books and articles on Franconian church history; e.g., <em>Markgrafen Casimir und Georg von Brandenburg</em>. A major contribution to Anabaptist history was his publication of the <em>Täuferakten</em> for Bavaria, <em>Quellen zur Geschichte der Wiedertäufer</em> (Bayern I, 1934, Bayern II, 1950). Schornbaum died in 1953.
