Schiere family
Schiere, a Mennonite family found at Harlingen, Dutch province of Friesland, from the 17th century, members of the Waterlander and later of the united congregation. They were usually merchants and active members of the church, as was Jan Symons Schiere in 1695. In the 19th century one branch was engaged in book printing and publishing at Harlingen. By marriage they were related with other Mennonite families at Harlingen, such as Hingst, Roos, Menalda, van Schouwenburg, and Fontein.
Teunis Schiere (b. 1836 at Boornbergum, Friesland, d. 19 May 1907, at Arnhem), who may have belonged to the Harlingen family, studied theology at the University of Groningen and the Amsterdam Mennonite Seminary, and served as a Mennonite minister at Ouddorp 1861-1874 and at Den Ilp 1874-1897, when he retired.
