Petrus (Pieter) Schagen, born about 1725 at [[Amsterdam (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Amsterdam]], died 11 November 1753, at [[Westzaan (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Westzaan]], was a son of [[Schagen, Marten (1700-1770)|Marten Schagen]]. He studied medicine, obtaining his MD degree at [[Utrecht (Utrecht, Netherlands)|Utrecht]] in 1747; he then studied theology at the Amsterdam Lamist Seminary in 1747-51. From 1751 until his early death he served as preacher in the [[Frisian Mennonites|Frisian]] congregation of Westzaan-Zuid, practicing medicine at the same time. Petrus Schagen was one of the last of the many Dutch ministers who combined the ministry with a medical practice. He published a few medical studies and a treatise in Latin on earthquakes (1747). His theological-philosophical tract <em>Oratio de Summo Bono</em> was published at Haarlem, 1741.
